Day 55: Help Create A Native Habitat Garden At Schooner Town Heritage Site, Wasaga Beach

Day 55 of 365

Ontario Parks and the Town of Wasaga Beach are creating a native plant demonstration garden at Schooner Town Heritage Site and need your help.

The state of Beach Area 1 in Wasaga Beach after the weekend crowds was truly shocking. Click here to get some idea of the rubbish left behind.

Not only are we fortunate to live in this beautiful part of the world but also to have hard working volunteers who add immensely to the pleasure of living in Wasaga Beach in stark contrast to those that left the beach in such a mess.

This Thursday June 3rd at 10 am YOU can help.

Volunteers are needed to help plant and create a garden which will “showcase many species of plants native to the Wasaga Beach area and demonstrate how they can successfully be used in an attractive garden without the use of chemicals and supplemental water. The plants will provide nectar sources for hummingbirds, butterflies and bees as well as  seeds for birds. Many of the plants also have heritage uses by First Nations and early settlers of the area.”

If possible bring your trowels and work gloves but equipment will be supplied for those who require it. Refreshments will be provided.

For more information or to confirm your attendance, please contact John Fisher, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park Superintendent at 429-2516, or via e-mail at [email protected]
