Title
Collingwood & Wasaga Beach Highway 26 Re-Alignment Project Update
Public meeting on June 23rd.
Work on the widened highway was stopped after the provincial election in 2004 when the Liberals under Dalton McGuinty came to power. It was only in November last year that new plans for the highway were revealed. These included:
- Project might re-start this fall.
- Possible completion date in 2011.
- Roundabouts where Highway 26 currently meets Mosley Street and Poplar Sideroad.
The public meeting from 5pm to 8pm on June 23rd will be held at the Shrine Club on Fairgrounds Road and will provide an update on the design of the highway and possibly a timeline for its completion.
Three commercial developments at Mosley and 26 are waiting for the completion of the highway to go ahead. These will bring more commercial taxes and jobs for Wasaga Beach. Real estate prices should increase especially in the “old” 26 area which would not then have the volume of traffic. New home developments such as Blue Shores will also benefit.
