Collingwood Ethanol Plant To Shut Down Temporarily On June 30

One day after an explosion and fire at the plant, Collingwood Ethanol announced it will be temporarily shutting down on June. 30.

In a press release, the plant said it will be shutting the plant down to complete its odour abatement plan that has recently been accepted by the Ministry of Environment.
Bruce Chandler of Collingwood Ethanol said the company will be looking at its process until June 30 and expects to reduce odours by 40 per cent before the shutdown. He expects the work completed after June 30 will reduce odours by 97 per cent.
The shutdown could last through the summer, added Chandler, but he had no firm estimates on just how long the plant could be idle.

“It could be (reopen by) July and August, but we’d like it to be sooner than that,” he said. “If it works, that would mean all of the equipment would be up and operating and that would be good for both us and the community.”

Peter Case, president of the Collingwood East Environmental Action Committee (CEEAC) said this is a long time coming.
“They are doing now what could and should have been done a long time ago,” he said. “We think it’s a step in the right direction.”

Peter Case of the Collingwood East Environmental Action Committee holds up a petition asking Collingwood Council to support them in regards to their concerns over Collingwood Ethanol.

If you were considering buying near the plant, at Blue Shores or Lakeside Point for example, now is the time to seriously consider your position. Undoubtedly the on going issues at the Ethanol Plant have affected prices ; “if” these issues are cleared up the demand and price will increase. Let me know if you want more information.
